Abstract:

The article is devoted to the research of the mechanism of grammatical drift of verbs that have lost in one of their meanings categorical meaning of verb action. These words tend to state category words as a result of their acquisition of the categorical meaning of a state. We are talking about frozen impersonal forms of verbs that can correlate in the constructions of the modern Russian language with the subject of action in the dative case, called the dative subject. The mechanism of grammatical drift had historical in nature character and was actively implemented from the XVII to XIX centuries. Its result was the emergence of a group of words that were originally other parts of speech and currently belong to the words of the category of state. The research was carried out on the material of the verb “везти” and the synonymous verbs “паить” and “спорить” that were lost in modern Russian. It showed that the verbs under study underwent a semantic-grammatical transformation. In conclusion, the authors concluded that grammatical drift was caused by semantic derivational processes that took place in connection with the development of abstractness in the Russian language. He was characterized by lively colloquial speech and focused on the development of the language and the expression of the mental category of state important for Russian people.
